Freepik (now Magnific) review 2026: what is still free, what every plan costs in rupees, and which AI models are really unlimited

If you typed freepik into Google and landed on a site called Magnific, you are in the right place. Freepik renamed itself on 28 April 2026, and most of what people search for next has changed with it: the free plan, the prices, the AI models and the word “unlimited”. We read the whole pricing page from India on 3 November 2026, captured it, followed every redirect, and wrote down what we could verify and what we could not.

Prices in ₹ and $Every credit cost listedChecked 3 Nov 2026
The short answer

Freepik is Magnific now: same company, same account, new name, and freepik.com/pricing redirects to magnific.com. The free plan is 10 stock downloads a day with attribution, and the pricing page lists no free AI allowance. Paid plans in India start at ₹910 a month billed annually (₹1,340 monthly) with 240,000 credits a year; a Nano Banana 2 image costs 75 credits and a Magnific One image 180 to 250. Unlimited starts at Premium+ (₹2,250 a month annually) and is shrinking: six models move from unlimited to credits at renewal.

Freepik rebranded as Magnific on 28 April 2026. The platform combines a 250-million-asset stock library with AI image, video and audio generation from third-party models (Google Nano Banana 2 and Pro, Kling, Seedance, Veo, Flux, GPT Image) and its own Magnific One model and upscalers. The Free plan allows 10 stock downloads a day for personal use with attribution. Paid plans in India cost ₹910, ₹2,250 and ₹5,512.50 a month billed annually, carry a commercial AI licence, and give credits valid for a year.

What happened to Freepik

Freepik started in 2010 in Malaga, Spain, as a search engine for free vectors, and grew into one of the largest stock libraries on the web. In May 2024 it bought Magnific, a small Spanish startup whose AI upscaler had gone viral. On 28 April 2026 it turned that around and took the smaller brand’s name: Freepik, the Magnific upscaler and the Pikaso-era AI tools became one product called Magnific. The company says the change is a rename, not a sale: EQT has held a majority stake since May 2020, Joaquín Cuenca is still CEO, and the business reported about $230 million in annual recurring revenue and more than a million paying subscribers at the time of the switch.

You can see the rename without reading a press release. We sent plain HTTP requests to the old addresses on 3 November 2026:

The top of Magnific's pricing page on 3 November 2026: the Magnific logo in the header and a banner reading Meet Magnific One, with Brand Kit, included in all paid plans
The pricing page header on 3 November 2026 — magnific.com/pricing. The browser tab title reads “Pricing plans | Magnific (formerly Freepik)”, and the first thing on the page is the Magnific One launch banner.

Three things did not change. Your login still works, a subscription bought under the Freepik name carries on, and the stock library is the same 250 million-plus assets. One thing did: the AI tools, which Freepik used to present as a sideline next to the stock library, are now the product, and the stock library is the sideline. Read the pricing page and the first eleven rows are video models.

A note on timing. Magnific says the old domain and name will keep working, and in November 2026 search still shows “Freepik” everywhere. If you want the stock library you used to use, it is at magnific.com under Stock.

What Freepik is, and what it is used for

Freepik, now Magnific, is a subscription creative platform from Malaga, Spain, that combines a stock library of more than 250 million vectors, photos, PSDs, icons and templates with AI tools for making and editing images, video and audio. People use it for three things: downloading ready-made design assets for presentations, social posts and print; generating images and short videos from a prompt with third-party models such as Google’s Nano Banana 2, Kling and Veo, or with its own Magnific One; and upscaling or enhancing photos with the Magnific upscaler that gave the company its new name. It runs in a browser, in desktop and mobile apps, and inside ChatGPT and Claude through an MCP plugin.

It is not a single AI model. Magnific licenses models from Google, OpenAI, Kling, ByteDance, Black Forest Labs, Recraft, xAI and Ideogram, prices each in credits, and sells the bundle. That is why the credit table below matters more than any single “is Freepik good” verdict: the quality you get is the quality of the model you pick, and most of those models are in our benchmark under their own names.

What is still free on Freepik (Magnific)

This is the question most people arrive with, and the pricing page answers only half of it.

Stock content. The page’s own FAQ says: “If you’re on a Free plan, you get 10 downloads a day for stock content. But if you’re on a Premium, Premium+ or Pro plan, you have unlimited downloads.” Free downloads are limited to the free collection, need an attribution line with a link, and the Free plan is for personal use. Anything you make or edit yourself, with any plan, can be downloaded without limit and without credit.

Magnific's pricing FAQ on 3 November 2026 answering Do downloading limits apply to the designs I create: Free plan gets 10 downloads a day for stock content, paid plans have unlimited downloads
The free limit, in Magnific’s words — the pricing FAQ on 3 November 2026. Ten stock downloads a day on the Free plan; your own creations are never limited.

AI generation. The pricing page lists three paid plans and no free tier at all. The comparison table has no Free column, every AI model is priced in credits, and the Free plan has no credits. Several third-party reviews published since the rename say free accounts get about 20 AI images a day on the house model, with no credits, no premium models and a personal-use licence. That may well be true, but it is not on the pricing page, and Magnific’s security filter blocked our automated browser from the generator and the help pages, so we could not count it ourselves. Treat “20 a day” as reported, not confirmed.

If free AI images are what you want, you do not need Freepik for them. Google Gemini runs the same Nano Banana 2 model that Magnific charges 75 credits for, free, with a daily limit, and every prompt on our 144 tested prompt pages works in it unchanged. For a generator with no account at all, Vheer gave us seven unwatermarked images before asking for anything. Our free AI image generators ranking compares the daily limits side by side.

Freepik (Magnific) pricing in rupees and dollars

Prices below are what the pricing page showed from an Indian connection on 3 November 2026, before tax. The default toggle is annual billing; the struck-through figure on each card is the monthly rate.

Magnific's pricing page on 3 November 2026 viewed from India: Premium at 910 rupees a month billed annually with 1,340 struck through, Premium+ at 2,250 with 3,000 struck through, Pro Starter at 5,512.50 with 7,350 struck through
The three individual plans in rupees — magnific.com/pricing on 3 November 2026 with the Annual toggle on. Premium ₹910, Premium+ ₹2,250, Pro Starter ₹5,512.50 a month, each with the monthly price struck through beside it.

Rupee prices are our own capture. Dollar figures are the annual rates VentureBeat quoted at the Magnific One launch (8 October 2026) and monthly rates from third-party pricing pages; we did not view the page from the US. Business is $55 to $69 a seat and Enterprise is custom.

Four rules sit under those numbers, all from the page’s own FAQ. On an annual plan you get all your credits up front and they last the year; on a monthly plan they reset each month and unused credits do not roll over. Extra credits can be bought only on Premium+ and Pro, expire three years after purchase, and go on hold if you cancel. Every paid plan renews automatically. And there is a 30-day refund guarantee, which third-party pages say applies only if you have not downloaded or generated anything.

Top-ups are not for Premium — the pricing FAQ on 3 November 2026. A Premium subscriber who runs out of credits has to upgrade, not top up.

What every AI model costs in credits

The Freepik AI image generator is now the Magnific image generator

The tool people still search for as the “Freepik AI image generator” lives at magnific.com under Creative Suite. It is a model picker rather than a model: you choose Nano Banana 2, Nano Banana Pro, GPT Image 2.5, Flux.2, Recraft, Grok, Ideogram, Magnific Precision or the new Magnific One, type a prompt or attach a photo, and pay the credit price of whichever you chose.

Magnific’s own walkthrough of the generator that used to be called the Freepik AI image generator: picking a model, writing the prompt, choosing a size. Loads from YouTube only when you press play.

Magnific does not run one generator. It resells about thirty, each with its own price in credits, and the price is the useful number: 240,000 credits sounds generous until you see that a 4K Seedance clip costs 5,600 of them. Here is the comparison table as it stood on 3 November 2026, with the number of images or clips each annual plan buys.

Magnific’s FAQ reserves the right to change credit costs without notice, and says a single generation can return one to four or more images, each counted. All figures from magnific.com/pricing, 3 November 2026.

Read as a price per image, Premium works out at roughly ₹0.34 a Nano Banana 2 picture if you use every credit in the year, and about ₹0.80 a Magnific One image at 2K. That is cheap next to buying API access yourself. It is expensive next to free, which is what most Freepik searchers are after, and it is the reason the next section matters.

How “Unlimited” really works

Every plan card carries the words UNLIMITED, ALL YEAR in capitals, with Nano Banana 2, Kling 2.5 and Nano Banana Pro listed beneath. The comparison table tells a narrower story, and the FAQ a narrower one still.

In the table, the Premium column shows a finite number of images for every model. The infinity signs start in the Premium+ column (Nano Banana 2 at 1K, Nano Banana 2 Lite, Flux.2 Pro, Recraft, Grok, Kling 2.5 at 720p, Hailuo 2.3 Fast) and widen on Pro Starter (adding Nano Banana 2 at 2K, Nano Banana Pro at 1K and 2K, and Flux.2 Max). The Premium card’s “unlimited” block, read next to the table, means the plan gives credits on those models, not unlimited use of them.

Magnific's pricing FAQ on 3 November 2026 answering How does Unlimited work: included in Premium+, Business and Pro, speed may vary, and on Premium+ Nano Banana Pro, Nano Banana 2 2K, Flux.2 Flex, Flux.2 Max, GPT Image 1.0 and GPT Image 1.5 move from Unlimited to credits at the next renewal
The fine print on Unlimited — the pricing FAQ on 3 November 2026. Speed may vary, Premium is not included, and six models leave the Premium+ unlimited list at renewal.

The FAQ adds three conditions. Unlimited is “included in Premium+, Business, and Pro plans”, which leaves Premium out. On unlimited models “speed may vary”, and “for consistent generations any time, use credits”, so unlimited is a slower queue. And on Premium+ and Business, six models are moving from Unlimited to credits at the next renewal: Nano Banana Pro at 1K and 2K, Nano Banana 2 at 2K, Flux.2 Flex, Flux.2 Max, GPT Image 1.0 and GPT Image 1.5. New Premium+ subscribers pay credits for them from day one. Pro keeps everything unlimited “with faster processing included”.

So the honest summary is: unlimited Nano Banana 2 at 1K starts at ₹2,250 a month on an annual plan, unlimited Nano Banana Pro and 2K output starts at ₹5,512.50, and the September 2026 Yahoo headline about Freepik “offering unlimited AI image generations” describes a list that has since got shorter.

Magnific One and Brand Kit

On 8 October 2026 Magnific launched its first in-house branded generator, Magnific One, with a Brand Kit that reads a brand guideline PDF or website and steers every image toward that palette, typography and tone. It is on every paid plan and is the banner at the top of the pricing page.

What it is underneath is less clear than the launch copy. Magnific’s head of product marketing told VentureBeat the model is “powered by GPT-Image-2” with Magnific’s creative-direction layer on top; the company’s written FAQ says “nothing was trained” and refers only to current image-generation technology. VentureBeat noted the two accounts were not reconciled. The 68.5 percent win rate Magnific quotes against Midjourney, GPT Image 2, Nano Banana 2 and Seedream 5 Pro comes from its own blind arena, with no published methodology.

The mechanics are concrete. Draft mode returns 8 or 16 alternative compositions from one prompt for the credit cost of one image. Final renders the chosen draft at 2K or 4K, 180 or 250 credits at High quality and 600 or 1,000 at Max. Up to five reference images can guide the output. On the plan table that makes a Premium subscriber’s year worth 1,333 Magnific One images at 2K, against 3,200 Nano Banana 2 images.

Freepik Mystik AI Review: Does It Live Up to the Hype? — YouTube, phill ai. An independent reviewer’s test of Mystic, the house model that preceded Magnific One; Google’s AI Overview for “freepik” cites this video. Loads from YouTube only when you press play.

We have not run Magnific One ourselves: it is for paying subscribers and the site’s security filter turned away our test browser. When we do, it will be scored the same way as the ten generators in our benchmark, with the same nine prompts and the first output kept.

Licence, attribution and your data

Stock content. Free stock is for personal use and needs an attribution line with a link; the FAQ’s “no attribution” applies to Premium stock on paid plans. A Merchandise License, for putting non-AI Premium assets on products you sell, exists only on Pro, allows up to 100,000 units per asset, and does not permit registering a logo or trademark from an asset.

AI output. Every paid plan lists a “Commercial AI license”, and the FAQ says AI-generated images “can be used for personal or professional purposes, including commercial projects”, with the responsibility for third-party rights on you and a recommendation to take legal advice before using them in branding or merchandise. It also notes that copyright in AI output varies by country, which is true, and in India unsettled.

Your data. All three paid cards say “No model training on your data”. The pricing page does not say the same for the Free plan, so we are not saying it either; the terms of use and privacy policy are where to check before uploading client photos on a free account.

The Freepik app is now the Magnific app

There is no new download. Magnific’s rebrand notice says the Freepik mobile app was updated and renamed in place: with auto-updates on, the new name and icon appear by themselves; otherwise update it from the Play Store or App Store. Logins and existing app subscriptions carry over, and the rollout was described as taking a few days to reach every device. The desktop app and the MCP plugin for ChatGPT and Claude are newer and were launched under the Magnific name.

Freepik alternatives

Which alternative makes sense depends on which Freepik you were using.

Who Freepik (Magnific) is for, and who should skip it

It is a good buy if you already pay for stock assets and want every major image and video model behind one login, you make enough images a month that 240,000 credits a year is a saving over separate subscriptions, or you want the upscaler. Premium+ makes sense if you burn through generations on Nano Banana 2 at 1K and can live with a slower queue; Pro if you need 2K unlimited or a merchandise licence.

Skip it if you came for free AI images, because the free plan is a stock allowance, not a generator; if you only need Nano Banana for your own photos, because Gemini runs it for nothing; or if you need a clear answer on free-plan data use before you upload anything.

Verdict

The Freepik most people remember, free vectors and a sideline of AI tools, is gone, and the company is honest about that: it changed its name to the AI product. Magnific is a credible aggregator of other people’s models with a clear credit table, a real commercial licence on every paid plan, rupee pricing that undercuts buying the same models separately, and one rename that cost nobody their account.

What it is not is free, or as unlimited as the capitals suggest. Ten stock downloads a day is the whole free offer on the page; the AI allowance is hearsay until Magnific publishes it; and the Unlimited list on Premium+ is shrinking at the next renewal. Read the comparison table, not the card, and you will know exactly what ₹910 buys.

What we verified, and what we did not

We captured magnific.com/pricing from India on 3 November 2026 in both billing modes, expanded every FAQ entry, and recorded the HTTP redirects from freepik.com and magnific.ai, in line with our review policy. We did not generate images: the AI tools sit behind a sign-in, and Magnific’s security filter returned 403 to our automated browser on the generator, help and homepage URLs. The free AI daily allowance, the dollar prices and the Magnific One model details are therefore reported from Magnific’s statements to the press and from third-party pages, and are labelled as such above. The two embedded videos are Magnific’s own getting-started walkthrough and an independent reviewer’s Mystic test; we did not make them and they load from YouTube only when played. We will re-check the page and this review when Magnific changes its plans.

Frequently asked questions

Is Freepik now Magnific?

Yes. On 28 April 2026 Freepik renamed itself Magnific, the name of the AI upscaler it bought in May 2024. The stock library, the AI tools and the apps all sit under the Magnific name now. freepik.com still exists, but its pricing page sends a 301 redirect to magnific.com/pricing, and magnific.ai redirects to magnific.com as well.

Is Freepik still free?

Partly. On 3 November 2026 Magnific's own pricing FAQ said a Free plan gets 10 downloads a day of stock content, and that downloads of your own creations are not limited. Free stock content needs attribution and is for personal use. The pricing page lists no free AI allowance; third-party reviews report about 20 AI images a day on the house model, which we could not verify because the generator sits behind a sign-in.

How much does Freepik (Magnific) cost in India?

On 3 November 2026 the pricing page, viewed from India, showed Premium at Rs 910 a month billed annually or Rs 1,340 monthly, Premium+ at Rs 2,250 a month annually or Rs 3,000 monthly, and Pro Starter at Rs 5,512.50 a month annually or Rs 7,350 monthly, all before tax. Annual plans give 240,000, 600,000 and 1.5 million credits for the year.

How much does Freepik cost in dollars?

Magnific's annual plans are listed at $14.50, $33.75 and $82.50 a month for Premium, Premium+ and Pro Starter, which VentureBeat repeated when Magnific One launched in October 2026. Third-party pricing pages put the monthly-billed rates at $20, $45 and $110. We saw the rupee prices ourselves; the dollar figures are as reported.

What does Unlimited mean on Magnific?

Unlimited lets you generate on selected models without spending credits, and Magnific says speed may vary. It is included in Premium+, Business and Pro, not Premium. On Premium+ the unlimited set now centres on Nano Banana 2 at 1K plus about 30 smaller models; Nano Banana Pro, Nano Banana 2 at 2K, Flux.2 Flex and Max and GPT Image 1.0 and 1.5 move to credits at the next renewal. Pro keeps Nano Banana Pro and Nano Banana 2 at 2K unlimited.

What happened to magnific.ai?

magnific.ai now redirects to magnific.com. The upscaler that made the Magnific name lives inside the main platform as the Magnific image and video upscalers, included from the Premium plan up, and Topaz upscalers are added on Premium+ and Pro.

Can I use Freepik AI images commercially?

On paid plans, yes. The pricing FAQ says AI-generated images can be used for personal and professional purposes including commercial projects, as long as they respect third-party rights, and it recommends legal advice for branding or merchandise. Every paid plan lists a commercial AI licence; the Free plan does not.

Does Freepik need attribution?

For free stock content, yes. Magnific's attribution guide asks for a credit line with a link wherever free content is used. Paid plans carry a no-attribution licence for stock, and attribution never applies to things you design or edit yourself with its tools.

What is Magnific One?

Magnific's own image generator, launched 8 October 2026. Its product marketing lead told VentureBeat it is powered by GPT-Image-2 with Magnific's creative-direction layer on top; the written FAQ says nothing was trained. It costs 180 credits for a 2K image and 250 for 4K at High quality, has a Draft mode that returns 8 or 16 compositions for the price of one image, and works with a Brand Kit on paid plans.

Does Freepik use Nano Banana?

Yes. Google's Nano Banana 2 and Nano Banana Pro are the headline models on every Magnific plan card, at 75 credits an image for 1K and 2K and 150 credits for 4K. If you only want Nano Banana for editing your own photos, Gemini runs it directly and for free; our prompt pages were all run that way.

Is my old Freepik account still valid?

Yes. Magnific's rebrand notice says existing accounts, subscriptions, projects and downloads carry over, and the Freepik mobile app was renamed in place through an app-store update rather than replaced.

Who owns Freepik and Magnific?

Magnific AI, S.L.U., based in Malaga, Spain, founded in 2010 by Alejandro Sanchez, Pablo Blanes and Joaquin Cuenca. The private-equity firm EQT took a majority stake in May 2020. In April 2026 the company reported about $230 million in annual recurring revenue and more than a million paying subscribers.

Can I download Freepik premium images for free?

Not legitimately. Premium stock on Magnific is only downloadable on a paid plan, and the FAQ says it is marked Premium precisely so that only subscribers can download it. The free route is the Free plan's 10 downloads a day from the free collection with attribution. Sites and browser extensions that promise free premium downloads work by sharing or scraping paid accounts, which breaks Magnific's licence and leaves you with no usage rights to the file. The 30-day refund guarantee is the only sanctioned way to try a paid plan for nothing, and third-party pages report it applies only if you have not downloaded or generated anything.

Do Freepik downloader sites or tools work?

They are against Magnific's terms and we do not recommend them. A Freepik downloader fetches files through someone else's paid account, so the file carries no licence you can rely on, and accounts used that way get closed. If you need a free vector or PSD, the Free plan allows 10 a day with an attribution line, and anything you make yourself in Magnific's tools can be downloaded without limit on any plan.

Can you make money from Freepik?

Yes, in two ways, both still running under the Magnific name. Contributors upload vectors, photos, PSDs or AI-generated assets (which must be labelled as AI) to the contributor marketplace; Magnific's contributor FAQ says earnings come from downloads of assets marked Premium, paid by PayPal or Payoneer once a balance reaches 25 US dollars or 50 euros. Separately, an affiliate programme pays a commission when someone starts a first Magnific subscription through your link. We have not been through either programme ourselves.
